Hierbij roepen wij alle creatieven van Nederland op om zich te verenigen!

De culturele sector is een van de hardst getroffen sectoren tijdens de corona-crisis. Binnen deze toch al precaire sector bestond er namelijk al langere tijd (te)veel nood om de eindjes aan elkaar te knopen en dreigden instellingen hierdoor al langer uit elkaar te vallen. De culturele sector heeft 30 keer zoveel mensen in dienst als de KLM en brengt maar 0,8% minder bij aan het Nederlandse BBP, alsnog zal zij buitensporig weinig steun ontvangen. Terwijl de Nederlandse overheid van plan is om 4 miljard euro steun te geven aan de KLM, zal de culturele sector daarentegen slechts 300 miljoen euro ontvangen. Dit betekent dat alhoewel de culturele sector procentueel gezien bijna evenredig veel bijdraagt aan de Nederlandse economie en er in de culturele sector 30 keer zoveel mensen werkzaam zijn vergeleken met de KLM, de KLM alsnog meer dan 13 keer zoveel geld zal ontvangen.

Wij geloven erin dat dit niet juist is!

Zonder voldoende hulp zullen veel creatieven en werknemers in de culturele sector namelijk hun inkomen verliezen en vitale instellingen uiteindelijk instorten. Hoewel er in de media stemmen opgaan om dit huidige gesprek aan te voeren, blijft de omvangrijkheid van de toekomstige slachting, welke zal volgen indien er niet voldoende geld beschikbaar wordt gesteld voor de culturele sector, verborgen. Mensen zullen juist in hun isolement steeds meer kunst en media willen consumeren, iets wat onmogelijk zal zijn indien er geen culturele sector meer bestaat en er daardoor tevens geen kunsten meer zullen zijn om van te kunnen genieten.

Om meer zichtbaarheid te creëren van de culturele droogte die op dit punt staat te ontstaan, hebben we een plan gemaakt!

We roepen alle mensen die werkzaam zijn in de culturele sector en vrezen hun baan te verliezen (of zij die hun baan zijn kwijtgeraakt zijn) op om hun naam onder deze post te zetten. Deze lijst zal een fysiek document zijn dat getuigt van de veldslag die de culturele sector onvermijdelijk hard zal treffen. Hierbij is het opstellen van een lijst met alle namen van mensen die op het punt staan werkloos te worden een manier om de enorme omvang van deze kwetsbare en onmisbare sector zichtbaar te maken. Door de namen van de getroffenen te verzamelen en te tonen, willen we graag de aandacht vestigen op hetgeen dat de culturele sector mogelijk staat te wachten.

Calling on all the creatives of the Netherlands to unite!

As the world went into lockdown, the cultural sector was hit as one of the hardest by the corona crisis. Within this already precarious sector, a lot are struggling to make ends meet and institutions are crumbling. The cultural sector employs 30 times as many people as KLM and contributes only 0.8% less to the Dutch GDP, but will still receive excessively little support. While the Dutch government plans on spending 4 billion euros in aid to KLM, the cultural industry will only receive 300 million. So, while the cultural sector contributes proportionally almost as much as KLM to the dutch economy and employs even more people, KLM receives more than 13 times the amount that the cultural sector is getting.

This does not add up!

Without sufficient aid, many creatives will lose their income and vital institutions will collapse. While some voices in the media are already pointing this out, the scale of the onslaught that will follow if there isn’t sufficient funding remains hidden. While people in their isolation have been consuming art and media at an increased rate, if there is no cultural sector anymore there won’t be any art left to enjoy. In order to create visibility for the cultural drought that is about to become, we have a plan!

We call on all people working in the cultural sector that are in fear of losing their job (or have lost their job) to reach out and add your name underneath this post. This list will be a physical document that testifies of the onslaught that is coming our way. Compiling a list of all the names of people that are about to be unemployed in this sector is a way for us to give visibility to the massive extend to which this sector is in danger. By giving a name to each of the individuals that are on the line, we want to raise awareness about what is about to happen.
